PENANGITES will literally be jumping to new heights with the creation of the first trampoline park on the island.
Built across 27,000sq ft in the atrium of D’Piazza Mall in Bayan Baru, Jump Street Asia’s instalment in the Pearl of the Orient features eight trampoline attractions that will have players bouncing several metres into the air.
There are more than 50 individual trampolines, on which players can play dodge ball, leap onto high walls, or even engage in gladiator-style combat with foam wrapped staves.
“The black ones are fun trampolines, and then there are yellow ones which are of Olympics specifications,” said chief executive officer Duncan McGilligan.
“The yellow ones will let you leap more than 3m into the air, after which you can opt to freefall into a giant air bag.”
He said that fitness statistics showed that jumping on trampolines for just 10 minutes burned as much calories as a 30-minute run.
“It’s a great cardiovascular workout that will also build our balance and agility and enhance our spatial awareness,” said McGilligan, while jumping leisurely on one of the black ones.
He recently gave The Star a sneak preview of the park, which will be visited by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng during a media launch today and will open for business tomorrow.
For safety, a team of 24 jump referees who came from professions such as fitness trainers, athletes, life guards and safety officers, will guide and show players how to jump, spin and launch themselves into thin air.
Usage of the park is charged by the hour, beginning with RM20 for the first hour from Mondays to Wednesdays, and RM25 from Thursdays to Sundays.
